Da Hee Kim is a filmmaker and producer based in Los Angeles and Northern Minnesota. She was born in 1988 in Seoul, South Korea to an unwed mother, and adopted by a white family in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her first short documentary, Big Happiness, is a personal exploration of adoption, identity, and colorblindness growing up in a transracial family. Big Happiness has screened at the Austin Film Festival, Boston Asian Film Festival, and the San Diego Asian Film Festival. She is interested in themes around identity, family, absence, ghosts, memory, landscape, decolonization, community practices, mothers, witnessing, spiritual practices, plants, and relationships. Da Hee is currently pursuing her MFA in Film & Video at CalArts in Valencia.
